I am a European immigrating to America. I am leaving my homeland in hope of finding a more prosperous and free life. With all the talk of the plentiful resources and religous freedom in America, it seems like he best bet. I will be settling in the middle colonies because of the great ethnic diversity (i'm dutch), and land is easy to acquire, i heard Pennsylvania grants 500 acres of land to arriving families. Also since i am a farmer, the middle colonies seem perfect for good farming. My wife and 10 year old son will accompany me, along with several other families from our town. We are all Roman Catholic, and our minister's family is immigrating with us, our plans are to build our own church. I hope America is as great as it sounds!

I own a small buisiness but the sales have been declining for months now. I am from London, England. I am a husband and the father of 1 boy. I am looking for religious freedom because I am presbyterian, so I plan on settling in the southern colonies. I also want to become a farmer so I can grow my own food and sell the extra. Hopefully I can make enough money to prosper. If this doesn't work, I don't know what will. Since the south is not as densly populated, I hope that I will get a lot of land along with peace and quiet to practice my religion.

I am an English Lady who is going to the New World to marry my fiancé. He is a rich slave owner in the Chesapeake Region. I despise the thought of him for he butchers his slaves like animals but I am to go, for it was Father's request. My family and I are not peasants nor near the working class. We are of the royal blood and my hand in marriage was to tie the knot between my Father and another man of the royal bloodline.
God was the only one who was on my side throughout this disastrous period in my lifetime. He sent me an angel that would lead me away from this prearranged marriage, a married man. However, the affection between us is far greater than love. Thus I am not going to the Chesapeake Region no more but travel to the New England colonies with this mysterious stranger. May there me a Catholic Church for me to say my sins and be forgiven so I don’t get killed for adultery.

I am an English woman who has 14 children. My husband and I are from England and are ready to escape from the Crown. In England we were considered middle class. We have enough money to start a life in the New World, but we are not part of the royal families. We do not really believe in any kind of religion so we'll be moving into the Chesapeake region. When we being our new lives there we will start a farm and grow many crops. Hopefully we'll be able to start a plantation as well and buy some slaves through the triangular trade. Education in my eyes in optional. Luckily the southern area we will be moving to does not require any schooling or church. I'm a very excited women to finally be able to move away to a new land with lots of freedom. Once I am there, I will take care of the children, house, and animals. Life should be pretty easy and wonderful! :)

The reason as to why i am risking my life to sail across the sea, is to seek benefit from those marvelous things i have heard people speak so highly about. To begin i would love not to be judged based upon my religion, secondly to increase the wealth of my family by mining for gold. I hope all goes well and God is with us throughout our long and rough journey.

I am currently living in England, but i wish to immigrate to the southern colonies. It's not that i disagree with the Church, i just see more opportunity in the New World than here in Europe. Me and my family want to move to a southern colony. We think that the way they run religion there will be appropriate for our lifestyle. I hear there isn't much schooling to be had in the south, but my wife can teach my two sons from home, so that won't be a problem. I also think that once we get there, we will become quite wealthy, as i plan to start a plantation and work the land with slaves that i can buy once i get there with the money i have saved up.

my parents... er!!! they want me to marry the adotive daughter of miss havisham, Estella. i dont want marry someone based on their social status. thats why i have decided to run away to the new land. They could use a young man like me. 18 and in my prime, im ready to leave the locust populated city of london. i want to explore, strech my legs, and smell the air of the salty sea. but even though i may lose my family, i will always have god. a strong believer in the catholic ways, i believe god will always be with me. the way i plan on buying my passage to the new world is stealing the money from my father. a wealthly man by birth, he will not miss the money i should take to pay for the trip. i shall take a great ship, towards the populated middle colonies. there i shall find a place of mixed culture. one where i can learn of all the many peoples, and heritage. i shall find a wife, one whos age shall not pass 18 and beautiful. i plan to use the vast wilderness to my advantage. i shall find land not own by no others and claim it as my own. i shall create a farm and name it Pip's Citadel. i see only hope for me in the future.

I am a young 16 year old male heading to the new land. It is not without great struggle however. I grew up in poverty with my family who were servants. I wanted a better life and was able to gain a ticket to the Chesapeake colonies on a ship with my neighbor whose son just died so i will take his place. My parents were against the trip when i told them. They can only see disaster in the end, but i see opportunity and great things to come. I plan to work as an indentured servant for a man over in the Chesapeake and then, when we are freed i will work a plot of land next to my neighbor and hopefully start a family, though that may be hard with the severe imbalance of gender. I am a part of the Angelican church but the churches are far between. My parents think i have called off my plans but i will be leaving soon to better my life.

I am an 17-year-old young woman who is being forced to leave England because of my Puritan beliefs. The year is 1630, the time period known as the Great Migration. The English govt. is cracking down harder on us separatist Puritans forcing us to leave England for the colonies for good. My family (my father, mother, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters) are departing for New England. We will settle in Boston where many others are emigrating too. My family is not what the world would consider as rich, but we are rich spiritually, which is all the matters. When we reach Boston I will focus on learning the skills I will need in order to become a good wife. I will also be a good role model for the degenerate.

I am a rich nobleman of age 25 who has more money than i need and i want to travel to the America. I follow no religion and am married and have 15 children. The number of children is a story for another day though, its pretty long. I made my riches through selling the patent of the wheel to this one big company. Anyways, with all this money our family has a greed to go on an adventure and relocate ourselves in America. I want to go to the southern colonies and start up a huge tobacco plantation. I may find some slaves who want to work for me and have them work the plantation. I plan to give them ample housing and treat them as family eventhough to most in the south that sounds pretty radical. I will pay for some tutors for my children as i don't want them to grow up uneducated. I have great plans for our families life in America.

I am a mother of three children from England, immigrating to America. I am leaving my country with my husband and family for many reasons. We have heard the wonderful stories and descriptions of this new land with natural resources, economic opportunities, religious freedom, and better lives for everyone. My family is part of the middle class, my husband owns his own farm and we hope to start a new family farm in America. The family and I will be settling in the New England colonies on our own land. I'm nervous but very excited to start my new life.

I am a Puritan living in England immigrating to Mass. I am a woman of 14 years old and come from a family of ministers, my father is hoping to start another church in which he can spread our faith openly and freely. We have other family already living there, and althought they have had a strict lifestyle they say the freedom of expressing our faith is worth it. I'm worried about the journey over because I fear death will come to me as it has to many others, but my father says it is what we must do to prosper. We're apart of the middle class, but we know with our hard work things will pay off like it has for many there. Our family will surley eventually become rich because we are good in God's eye, and will make others be higher in God's eye as well.

I am a 32 year old woman coming from Holland with my husband and our six children. We are with a group of Puritan separatists planning on settling in the Massachusetts Bay area. At first, my family and I lived a nice life in England. Then the crown started making all sorts of changes to the religious system. We did not agree with the changes, and spoke out against them. Then we were exiled and moved to Holland. It was fine there but I am really hoping that we will be able to start a new life and that my children will grow up to lead good Puritan lives as well.

I am a 21 year old single male traveling to America because I want to escape religious and political presecution. I will be headed for Pennsylvania because they accept many different religious practices and provide lots of oppurtunity for work. I am caucasian and I plan on becoming a farmer who will one day own a small farm. This will enable me to earn an honest living and give me the right to vote. I also hope to start a family once I arrive.

I am a middle class English woman who is leaving my country in hope of having a better life. My husband and two daughters and sons are Puritans and we wish to leave so we can openly practice our faith. We plan on moving to the New England colonies because we are highly religious and want our children to have a good education, unlike the children in the southern colonies. Our family would be what one would consider a "nuclear family". Once we're settled my husband and I would hopefully be accepted by the church, but we all know how hard that is to get into to. My husband would start farming, especially corn, which is extremely profitable. While the children are at school, I would do all the domestic work around the house. Often I'll be getting up before anyone and staying up later than them too, but it's my duty as a wife and mother. Hopefully we'll make profit off the farming and lead a charming life in America.

I am a 21 year old female coming to the colonies with my husband who is looking for a new start. We are moving to the southern colonies so we can try to start our own prosperous farm, religion is really not important to us so I don't mind that there are few to no churches in the southern colonies.

I am a 15 year old European girl traveling to America as an indentured servant. I am hoping for lots of opportunities and a better life in America than I am leaving behind in Spain. By the time my seven years of service is through, I hope to marry and establish a family. I am coming with several other people hoping to become indentured servants. It is likely I will be one of the first chosen as I am healthier and younger than most of the others on my ship. The ship is headed to a port in the New England colonies.
